Joshua was born in Newport News, VA, and lived there until he was 5, when his father had a transfer to a duty station in the United Kingdom where they lived until 1987. A stateside transfer brought the family to Chula Vista, CA where he lived till he joined the Army in 1998. Joshua was an Eagle Scout at 17 and a 1996 graduate of Castle Park Senior High School and where he played saxophone in the marching band. Joshua enjoyed playing games with his family and going camping in the Sierra Mountains. He had a passion for fishing and fished whenever he got a chance. Visiting new places was always a treat for Joshua, especially if it were steeped with history. He was an avid Scuba Diver and loved his motorcycle which he took the opportunities to ride with his Dad, sister Melissa or his friends. He was well liked by all he met and knew.

In 1998 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and after training was sent for a tour of duty in Germany. Joshua re-enlisted in order to become an E.O.D. (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) technician. Joshua had been deployed to Iraq, and Afghanistan. Joshua was attached to the 749th EOD company at Andrews AFB, often bringing fellow soldiers to his Dad’s home for a holiday meal. This was Joshua’s 2nd tour to Iraq, but his 3rd overall combat tour. Joshua deployed to Iraq with the 725th EOD CO. The 725th was short on personnel and Joshua volunteered to return to the Middle East so that someone would be able to come home on time.
